You spend 7-8 hours (or even more) of a day sleeping , so it is important that you sleep in a position that will not cause any back or neck pain or a stiff body. A sound sleep ensures a healthy day ahead, so treat your posture as a natural sleep aid that helps in your well being. Having a comfortable setting to sleep is essential if you want to wake up refreshed and rejuvenated. Having a firm mattress and good pillows are the two most essential factors for a good night's sleep.

Next comes the posture for sleeping. There are two postures recommended by doctors: on your back or on your side. Sleeping on your back is the most preferred one, as in this position your spine gets to relax and align itself in a natural way. You can use a medium firm pillow under your head and a rolled hand towel under your neck for more support. Make use of a pillow below your knees to elevate your legs. Sleeping on your back helps straighten your shoulders.

If sleeping on your back is not comfortable you can sleep on your side. Bend your knees and take a pillow in between your legs to adjust spine position. Do not bend the knees too much. But make sure you do not sleep on only one side for your lifetime, this may lead to other health problems.

Sleeping on your stomach is the worst posture. If sleeping in this position, you will wakeup with a stiff neck and back and in the long run it will hurt your internal organs.

Correct comfort and posture helps you sleep better. It is not easy to change your habits, but it will be worth all the effort, as this will have long run effects on your health in a positive way. Have a good night's sleep!
